This poll should make for a decent conversation starter, but what a difficult question it is to answer! I must confess in advance that I've not heard all of Wagner's earlier operas, but even amongst those I'm familiar with, it is difficult to choose a favourite. The Flying Dutchman, Lohengrin, Die Walkure, Parsifal...it depends on my mood of the moment, really! The overture to Act 1 of Rienzi always gets me going, actually, but I can't fully judge the Rienzi opera because it is sadly not one of those I have listened to yet.

I must confess to the same problem! To some extent it depends on my mood. On another point, I wonder whether I ought to have entered 'The Ring' as a single voting choice rather than entering each of the four parts into the opera separately. It is difficult to judge Das Rheingold, Die Walkure, Siegfried and Gotterdammerung separately because they are so much part of an organic whole!
